Luminosity emerged victorious in Columbus, beating Virtus.pro 2-1 despite losing the first map as they advanced to the semi-finals (17-19 on de_cache, 16-10 on de_cbble, 16-11 on de_overpass).

The last quarter-final at MLG Columbus 2016 was between Luminosity and Virtus.pro. The Brazilians topped Group A as they beat MOUZ and Ninjas in Pyjamas while the struggling Polish side beat G2 2-1 in the decider match to keep their Legend status intact.

The first map was de_cache which was picked by Virtus.pro as Luminosity chose to start on the CT-side. The Brazilian team got three opening kills but Wiktor "TaZ" Wojtas & Janusz "Snax" Pogorzelski secured the round despite a 2v5 disadvantage. Jarosław "pashaBiceps" Jarząbkowski & Snax combined for entry kills on the A-site in the first weapon round to put their team 4-0 ahead.

Luminosity started to win rounds but Virtus.pro made it expensive by getting kills and bomb-plants (5-2). This came back to bite Gabriel "FalleN" Toledo & co. as Virtus.pro extended their lead to 8-2 and Luminosity called for a timeout. The Brazilians grabbed three rounds in a row but TaZ & Snax stepped up once again, clutching another 2v5. The Poles ended the half 10-5 ahead.

Luminosity planted the bomb on the B-site as it was 5v5 to start the second half and did not let Virtus.pro retake as Fernando "fer" Alvarenga had a triple-kill. Despite losing the first weapon round, Luminosity answered with three of their own and tied the game at 11-11.

The timeout came from Virtus.pro as Luminosity took the lead but TaZ & co. were not able to stop the Brazilians' momentum. The solid tactical T-side approach of Luminosity earned them four map points (15-11). The Polish veterans came alive when the map was on the line to take it to overtime as they got four consecutive rounds.

A very late execution on the A-site worked for Luminosity and they earned picked up the first round of the overtime. A three man hold by Virtus.pro towards middle paid off, tying the game at 16-16. Virtus.pro managed to come on top of a 2v2 to finish the first half of overtime 17-16 ahead. Virtus.pro were victorious in the end, finishing the match 19-17 and securing their own map pick.

FalleN got two opening kills to kick off his team's map pick, de_cbble, as they went on to win the anti-ecos (3-0). Virtus.pro decided to push the B-site but were unsuccessful, trailing 0-4. Double entry by Snax helped the Poles get their first round but they got reset as they lost the following round.

Virtus.pro saw enough and called for a timeout after Luminosity lead 9-1. The Poles lost the subsequent round but VP answered with a 2v5 eco round victory thanks to Paweł "byali" Bieliński's quad-kill. At halftime, the score was 11-4 in favor of FalleN & company.

pashaBiceps struggled on the second map

Despite losing the pistol round, Virtus.pro initiated a comeback attempt and Snax's 1v2, which brought the score to 12-10, caused Luminosity to take a timeout. It paid off for the Brazilians and they immediately won three rounds to acquire five match points and they finished it off with a 16-10 scoreline.

To decide it all, we went to de_overpass where pashaBiceps picked up a triple-kill in the pistol round as Virtus.pro started on a good note. Luminosity, undaunted, made the force buy work and took the lead (3-1). The Poles won two rounds and tied it but Luminosity took the lead once again to make it 4-3. Virtus.pro decided to force buy in the eighth round which did not work out for them. Luminosity led 12-3 at halftime break.

Luminosity's pistol round victory was countered by Virtus.pro who won the second round of the first half and went on to get their 6th round. The Brazilians picked up another weapon round to make it 14-6 but the Poles answered right back thanks to Snax's double entry (14-7). Just like on the second map, the Polish team made a comeback effort and reached to double digits with Filip "NEO" Kubski wreaking havoc with his AWP.

Epitacio "TACO" de Melo's triple kill gave the Brazilians four match points and Luminosity won it 16-11.
